About François Damiens

François Damiens owes his fame to the hidden camera. Born in Uccle in 1973, he began in 1999 as a production assistant on Si c'était vous, a prank programme on RTL TVI, and there he invented François l'Embrouille: grumbling, condescending, incompetent and endlessly in bad faith, played straight to people who had no idea they were being filmed. The pranks made him widely popular in Belgium and reached France and Switzerland through Canal+ and the internet, and by 2004 he could no longer shoot them without being recognised, which prompted his move to France.

Film work took over from there. He played in OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies in 2006 and went on to Delicacy, Tango libre, La Famille Bélier and Les Cowboys. The César nominations reflect that range: best supporting actor for L'Arnacœur and for Suzanne, best actor for La Famille Bélier and for Les Cowboys.

In 2018 he went back to the format that launched him with Mon Ket, a feature he directed himself and shot with hidden cameras, in the role of Dany Versavel.
