Marc Herman
About Marc Herman
Marc Herman, born Marc Maloens in Leuven, is a Belgian humorist whose audience is mainly French-speaking television viewers. From 1981 he worked his way through programmes such as Zygomaticorama and Bon week-end on RTBF and La Classe on FR3, alongside one-man shows including Pain Perdu, Tout terrain and Un Carton.
In 1997 he moved to a stand-up format and found the figure that defines his career: Luc Dierrieckx, a good-natured, slightly clumsy Flemish man with a thick accent who turns ordinary household trouble into sketches. That character carried the long Stuuût series, broadcast first on RTBF and, after his return to RTL-TVI in 2010, on that channel, with shows such as Le Stuuût Roi, Le Sixième sens and Raoul au camping. Over time the accent softened and the character grew from a simpleton into a plain, honest everyman, surrounded by a fixed cast of invented relatives: his wife Wolleke, the dim but obliging brother-in-law Raoul and Raoul's sharp-tongued wife Roseline.
Herman has also written stage plays, among them L'Alarme Fatale and On s'organise, and acted in Pom le poulain and Les oiseaux de passage, both films by Olivier Ringer. In 2002 he became a Chevalier de l'ordre de la Couronne, and the town of Rochefort, whose comedy festival had featured him on television, made him an honorary citizen in 2006.
