About Damir Nikšić
Damir Nikšić came to humour through art school rather than the comedy club. He graduated from the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts Sarajevo in 2000, studied as a postgraduate at the University of Arizona until 2004 and then lectured at Northwestern University. He co-founded the Maxumim art group, sang in the rhythm and blues band Sing Sing, and showed work in the international selection of the Venice Film Festival in 2003.
His video pieces are where the concept and the joke meet. "If I wasn't Muslim" from 2005 was followed by Krunisanje Kralja Tvrtka in 2007 and Totalitarni fatalizam in 2015, as well as Srebrni pir: Manipulacija razjedinjenih nacija, known in English as Silver Feast: A Disunited Nations Manipulation. Most of what he makes reaches the public through YouTube and social networks: short clips and comments with a comic surface that refer, seriously and symbolically, to everyday reality in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Alongside stand-up and blogging he is also active in politics.
