About João Bubiz
Joao Gabriel Barros, known on stage as Joao Bubiz, is a Brazilian stand-up comedian from Aracaju, Sergipe, recognized as the first transgender man to perform stand-up comedy in Brazil and in his home state. He has traveled the country performing stand-up comedy since 2011, appearing in cities including Aracaju, Maceio, Salvador and Recife before later moving to Sao Paulo. At age 24 he recorded his first solo comedy special, Show Your Bubiz, on the stage of the Teatro Lourival Baptista. After beginning his gender transition at the end of 2020, following a chance encounter with a trans man's story at a YouTube Space event, he built new solo material addressing his experience, including the show Em Transe and the bit Mainha Sobre Minha Transicao, approaching the subject with a light rather than a grim tone. He hosts the comedy podcast Bufando and was featured in the 12-episode interview series Comediando on the Polo Cultural YouTube channel.
