About Mazzaropi
Amรกcio Mazzaropi, known simply as Mazzaropi, was a Brazilian actor, comedian, singer, independent producer, screenwriter, and filmmaker. He is considered one of the greatest phenomena of popularity and box office success in Brazilian cinema history. He became immortalised through his iconic character the "jeca" or "caipira" - a rural Brazilian figure that, although inspired by a character created by Monteiro Lobato, developed its own distinct and complex identity deeply connected to the culture and imagination of a significant portion of the Brazilian people.
Over nearly three decades of dedication to cinema, from 1952 to 1980, Mazzaropi conceived, produced, wrote, directed, and starred in thirty-two films. He exercised remarkable authorial and commercial control over his work through his own production company, PAM Filmes - Producoes Amacio Mazzaropi, which he founded in 1958. This level of creative and business independence made him an unusual figure in mid-twentieth century Brazilian film.
