Rodrigo Fernandes

Fernandes has gone by Jacare Banguela since 2004, when he started a blog about humour and pop culture, and the name stayed with him through the YouTube channel he opened in 2009 and web series such as Nao Fale com o Motorista.

Stand-up came in February 2011, when he stepped in at a night run by the Estacao Stand-up group in Rio de Janeiro, after which he kept a weekly slot in the city's comedy rooms and then moved to Sao Paulo. Television took him on as a director as much as a performer: Rafinha Bastos brought him in to direct filmed sketches for the Brazilian Saturday Night Live on RedeTV!, and he spent the years from 2014 to 2016 on Comedy Central's Republica do Stand-Up.

His solo special O Namorado da Minha Namorada is the Brazilian version of Mike Birbiglia's My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, adapted with the American comedian's agreement and directed by Oscar Filho. He wrote a book of comic stories, Tinha Tudo Para Dar Certo Se Nao Fosse Eu, and studied comedy filmmaking at the Harold Ramis Film School at Second City in Chicago, where he made the feature Second Date as his graduation project, writing it, directing it and playing the lead.
