Jacob Samuel

Jacob Samuel, born Jacob Fox, is a Canadian stand-up comedian and cartoonist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He grew up in Toronto and attended McGill University from 2006 to 2010; soon after moving to Vancouver for graduate study he discovered stand-up comedy after watching an amateur show and decided to try performing himself, making comedy his career. Working his way up through Vancouver's comedy scene, he developed a distinct style built on rapid-fire observations of modern life delivered in quick twelve-to-fifteen-second hits, occasionally expanding into longer stories.

Samuel is most noted for his 2020 comedy album "Horse Power," which won the Juno Award for Comedy Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2021. He is a regular performer on the CBC Radio comedy series "The Debaters" and appeared in the 2020 web series "The New Wave of Standup," and has taped television performances for the CBC, The Comedy Network and Crave. Beyond stand-up, Samuel works as a cartoonist, with work published in magazines including The New Yorker. In 2025 he released a second comedy special, "Big Talk."
