Jean-François Provençal

Writing sits at the root of Jean-François Provençal's comedy. After Cégep Saint-Laurent he studied literary creation, screenwriting and art history at UQAM. As a founding member of Les Appendices he was part of the collective's television show, which ran for eight seasons on Télé-Québec from 2009 to 2018, and he composed and sang songs that appear on the group's four albums. In 2014 he received a Prix Gémeaux for best performance in humour.

Cornet, the one-man show he wrote and presented at ZooFest in 2019, gave him a stage of his own. A large share of his other work has been in audio: the podcast National Nation, launched in 2017 with Mathieu Poirier, Pierre-Luc Racine and Yannick Belzil; Le Centre d'observation de la mémétique on QUB Radio from 2018 to 2019; and Tu me niaises, which he created in 2019 with the comedy duo Sèxe Illégal. He has acted too, as Mononcle Bobby in the web series Papa, in the cast of Trop. on Radio-Canada from 2016 to 2018, and in C'est comme ça que je t'aime in 2020.
