Sergio Freire

Sergio Orlando Freire Díaz (born October 3, 1980) is a Chilean actor, comedian and scriptwriter, one of the exponents of stand-up comedy in his country. He became known for his participation in the program SCA on the cable channel Vía X between 2006 and 2007, and El club de la comedia on Chilevisión between 2007 and 2014. In 2018 he took part in the LIX Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar in Chile and won both awards: the gaviota de plata and the gaviota de oro.

He began his career as an actor by taking a theater course while studying to become an electromechanic at the colegio Don Orione in Cerrillos. At that same school he met his classmate and friend Pedro Ruminot. He then continued his studies at the Escuela de Teatro de Gustavo Meza, where he met Nathalie Nicloux, who would later become known for their participation in the program Sociedad de Comediantes Anónimos (SCA) on the Chilean cable channel Vía X, the first stand-up comedy program in Chile in 2005.

In 2007, due to various labor problems with the channel Vía X, Sergio, together with Pato Pimienta, Nathalie Nicloux and Juan Pablo Flores, decided to leave the program and start a new project on open television, which they called El club de la comedia, broadcast by Chilevisión, where his success continued. On November 29, 2017, he was confirmed to take part in the LIX Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar, receiving the Gaviota de Plata and de Oro. He performed again in February 2024 at the LXIII Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar. He was married to the actress, comedian and presenter María Paz Jorquiera, with whom he has a son, Lucas, born in October 2017.
