Gabriel Murillo

Gabriel Murillo, known professionally as "El Gordo Murillo," is a Colombian stand-up comedian born in Bogotá. Trained as a mechanical engineer, he worked in the mechanics trade before starting a comedy career in the early 2010s, performing in small bars and local venues. His YouTube channel has since grown to more than 260,000 subscribers and over 56 million views. Murillo is associated with the dark humor comedy collective "Con Ánimo de Ofender" and has worked as director, editor and co-producer on programs including "Underground Stand-Up," "Podcastinando," "CADO Roast" and "Shorts." His stand-up style relies on irreverent, satirical and often dark humor drawing on personal experience, family and body image. In 2024 he competed on the sixth season of "MasterChef Celebrity Colombia." Murillo's comedy has also drawn public controversy. A joke in his 2022 special "En Qué Piensas" about the Chocó department led to a complaint filed with Colombia's Attorney General's Office by a local municipal ombudsman, who described the remarks as racist, a complaint Murillo said he considered "a medal." He has since made similarly contested jokes about other Colombian regions, including Vichada and Cúcuta.
