Mohamed Salem

Mohamed Salem is an Egyptian stand-up comedian from Alexandria, regarded as one of the pioneers of the art form in Egypt. He discovered stand-up comedy by chance through a university colleague and began performing in 2007 in small shows at private events and cafes, becoming one of the first people to introduce the format in Egypt and the first to do so in Alexandria. He went on to perform at cultural venues including Saqiet Abdel Moneim El-Sawy in Cairo and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and is credited with creating the first hour-long stand-up comedy special in Egypt. A television appearance on a satellite channel specialising in stand-up comedy helped him reach a wider audience with a satirical style focused on everyday absurdities. His stand-up videos, posted on his YouTube channel, have made him one of the most-watched Egyptian stand-up comedians on the platform, with more than 100 million views.
