About Salma El-Naggar
Salma El-Naggar (also transliterated Salma Al Najar) is an Egyptian stand-up comedian and voice actress. She entered comedy through a workshop in 2019 and has spoken publicly about how audiences react differently to a comedy set delivered by a woman, describing this as evidence of gender bias in the field; she has said that stand-up demands a boldness in tackling subjects that many women are not raised to broach, since the art form "is based on observation and questioning what happens around us with more audacity than other fields." Her material has ranged from the singer Abdel Basset Hamouda to lingerie to Egyptian emigration. Described by Uncaged Magazine as one of the original stand-up performers in Egypt's scene, she performed at the "Wannabe Comedians" showcase at Gatz Egypt in New Cairo, alongside fellow comedian Amgad El Shawshy, and has been interviewed as part of a new wave of Egyptian women in stand-up comedy.
