About Dieudonné
Dieudonne M'bala M'bala (born 11 February 1966), known mononymously as Dieudonne, is a French comedian, actor, and political activist. Born in Fontenay-aux-Roses to a sociologist father from Brittany and an accountant from Cameroon, he began his career performing with the Jewish comedian Elie Semoun as the comedic duo Elie et Dieudonne, humorously exploiting racial stereotypes, before they split in 1997 to pursue solo careers. He appeared in several French film comedies, most notably Alain Chabat's box-office hit Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002), and staged one-man shows including Pardon Judas (2000) and 1905 (2005). He is the lease holder of the Theatre de la Main d'Or in Paris. He has been convicted multiple times for hate speech, advocating terrorism, and slander in France, Belgium, and Switzerland, and is the inventor of the controversial quenelle gesture, which became notorious in 2013.
