About Gaspard Proust

Gaspard Proust is a French stand-up comedian and actor of Slovenian-Swiss origin, born on June 30, 1976, in Novo Mesto in former Yugoslavia (now Slovenia). He spent part of his childhood in Yugoslavia before moving with his family to Algeria, where he lived for around twelve years. After the 1994 attacks in Algiers, he left for Aix-en-Provence to finish secondary school in France. He later studied wealth management at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland before turning to comedy, drawing on his cosmopolitan background to develop a sharp, deliberately provocative voice on French political and social life.

Gaspard Proust began performing on small Swiss stages and presented his first show, 'Sous-developpe affectif', at La Petite Loge in Paris in 2007. He gained wider recognition in 2010 with his second show 'Enfin sur scene?', followed in 2011 by 'Gaspard Proust tapine', which cemented his reputation as one of the most acerbic stand-ups in France. From September 2012 to June 2015 he succeeded Stephane Guillon as the weekly editorialist on Canal+ talk show 'Salut les Terriens!' hosted by Thierry Ardisson, where his caustic chronicles on politics and current affairs reached prime-time audiences. His later stage work includes 'Nouveau spectacle', performed at the Olympia in December 2018 for a series of dates, and a tour through prestigious Parisian venues such as the Comedie des Champs-Elysees. His style is uniformly polemical: detached delivery, dry irony, attacks on both left and right, and a refusal of consensus that has earned him both a loyal following and recurring controversy.

Gaspard Proust tours France, Switzerland and Belgium regularly with his stand-up shows, playing both theatre-scale venues and larger halls such as the Olympia in Paris. His earlier specials are available on DVD and on streaming platforms in France, and clips of his Canal+ chronicles remain available online.
