About Guillaume Meurice

Guillaume Meurice is a French stand-up comedian, novelist and political satirist born on December 7, 1981, in Le Mans. He became a household name in France through his daily France Inter chronicle Le Moment Meurice, a format built on street interviews in which he would approach voters, politicians, market-goers and members of the National Assembly with deliberately naive questions, then let his interviewees reveal their own contradictions on air. His satire leans openly left and has often targeted the French right, the far right and government policy. Beyond radio, he is also a published novelist and stage performer with a strong stand-up presence in Parisian venues.

Meurice joined France Inter in the early 2010s as a contributor and quickly became one of the most listened-to voices of the satirical afternoon show, eventually rebranded Par Jupiter! and then C'est encore nous! On October 29, 2023, in a Halloween-themed sketch, he described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "a sort of Nazi but without a foreskin", a line that triggered a major controversy, internal disciplinary action and an Arcom regulatory warning. In April 2024 he repeated and defended the line on air after the dismissal of a related antisemitism complaint, and in June 2024 Radio France formally dismissed him for "repeated disloyalty". He has contested the firing in court. As a writer, he is the author of the novels Cosme (Flammarion, 2018), which retraces the real life of his friend Cosme Olvera, and Le roi n'avait pas ri (Lattes, 2021), centered on Triboulet the jester at the court of Francis I. He has also published the essay Petit eloge de la mediocrite (Editions Francois Bourin), in praise of the freedom of a 10-out-of-20 life. On stage he performs his own stand-up shows and tours France.

After the end of his France Inter chronicle, Guillaume Meurice has focused on touring and on independent podcast and digital projects. His own YouTube and Instagram channels host clips of his Moment Meurice archive and new material recorded post-firing. His novels Cosme and Le roi n'avait pas ri are available in French bookstores (Flammarion, Lattes, Folio). Stand-up tour dates rotate across Parisian venues and regional theaters.

Who is Guillaume Meurice?

Guillaume Meurice is a French stand-up comedian, satirist and novelist born in 1981. Why was Guillaume Meurice fired from France Inter?

In an October 29, 2023 Halloween sketch, Meurice described Benjamin Netanyahu as "a sort of Nazi but without a foreskin". He was suspended and given a formal warning. He is contesting the firing in court.

What is Le Moment Meurice?

Le Moment Meurice was a daily chronicle on France Inter (within Par Jupiter and later C'est encore nous) in which Guillaume Meurice interviewed people on the street, at markets, at political conventions and at the National Assembly. The comedy came from his deliberately naive questions and the contradictions interviewees revealed about themselves. The format ran for around eight years before his June 2024 dismissal.

Has Guillaume Meurice written books?

Yes. He is the author of the novel Cosme (Flammarion, 2018), based on the real life of his friend Cosme Olvera, and Le roi n'avait pas ri (Lattes, 2021), about Triboulet, jester at the court of Francis I. Where can I watch Guillaume Meurice?

Le Moment Meurice archives remain available as podcasts on the France Inter and Radio France apps. His personal YouTube and social channels host clips and new material recorded after his 2024 firing. His novels are available in French bookstores.
