About Raphaël Mezrahi
Raphael Mezrahi is a French comedian, actor, and writer born 24 March 1964 in Sousse, Tunisia. His family moved to Troyes, France, in 1965. After studying business, art history, and cinema, he worked briefly as a sales representative before joining French broadcaster TF1 as an intern. In 1992 he created the character of Hugues Delatte, a hapless, incompetent television journalist, and began recording deliberately awkward, deadpan interviews with real celebrities and public figures using this alter ego. These segments first aired on TF1 in 1995 on Patrick Sebastien's programme 'Osons', then moved to Canal+'s 'Nulle part ailleurs' from 1996 to 1998, where he conducted roughly 130 such interviews and became known for his absurdist, deadpan comedic style. In 2007 he published the book 'Prefaces imaginaires', a collection of invented prefaces to famous works. In 2008 he created the theatrical and musical show 'Monique est demandee caisse 12' at the Theatre du Rond-Point. He has continued acting, including an appearance in the France 2 series 'Astrid et Raphaelle' in 2020.
