About Sophia Aram

Sophia Aram is a French comedian, actress, radio columnist and television host of Moroccan heritage, born on June 29, 1973, in Ris-Orangis in the Essonne department, just south of Paris. Her father was a chef at Radio France and her mother Khadija, born in 1949 in Casablanca, was a homemaker; Sophia is one of six children. She grew up in Trappes in the Yvelines, where she discovered theatrical improvisation in high school and joined the Declic Theatre company - the same workshop scene that launched Jamel Debbouze. From those beginnings she built a stand-up voice rooted in working-class suburban France, secular republican values and an unflinching willingness to attack hypocrisy across the political spectrum.

Aram launched her first one-woman show "Du plomb dans la tete" in 2007, followed by "Crise de foi" (2011), about religions and identity; "Le Fond de l'air effraie" (2014), about the rise of the far right and identity politics; "A nos amours" (2018); and "Le Monde d'apres" (2022-2024), her fifth one-woman show, which won the Moliere de l'humour in May 2024. "Le Monde d'apres" attacks left, right, far-right and far-left, Islamists and self-styled saviors of the oppressed, weaving in COVID, Samuel Paty, the Bataclan and Charlie Hebdo. On radio she joined France Inter in 2008 with a weekly chronicle on Stephane Bern's "Le Fou du Roi" and, from September 2010, hosted her own Monday morning chronicle on the station - a position she has held for more than fifteen years and which has often drawn polemic reactions across French politics. She is also the author of the book "La question qui tue" (Denoel, 2021).

Sophia Aram tours regularly across France, Belgium and French-speaking Switzerland. "Le Monde d'apres" continues to play at venues such as Le Theatre Libre in Paris (where it won the Moliere) and on the regional circuit. Tickets are sold through Theatreonline, the host venues and the major French ticketing platforms. Her France Inter chronicles are archived for free on Radio France and major podcast apps, and her book "La question qui tue" is available from Denoel.
