Deepak Mohan

Deepak Mohan is a Kochi-based stand-up comedian and an alumnus of IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad who ranked first in Kerala's state engineering entrance examination in 2010. After leaving his startup and briefly pursuing a comedic socks business, he discovered stand-up comedy and performed his first open-mic set in Kochi in August 2018, an experience he has called love at first gig. When he moved back to Kochi in 2021 he found no established open-mic community, so he helped start the Cochin Comedy Project alongside fellow comics including Aneez M. Latheef, Mahadevan and John Joe, building it into a touring collective that has performed across multiple Kerala cities as well as in Dubai. His material addresses the social stigma around staying unmarried and pokes fun at unrealistic societal timelines, drawing heavily on Malayalam-language pop-culture references from Kerala cinema and politics. In September 2023 he turned his own cancelled wedding into a sold-out comedy show, Saadhanam Kaiyilund, staged at the very venue booked for his wedding reception.
