KPY Bala
About KPY Bala
KPY Bala carries the initials of the programme that made his name: Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru?, the Vijay TV comedy contest whose sixth season he won in 2017. Born in Karaikal, he came to Chennai with help from Amuthavaanan and went looking for openings on channel shows such as Athu Ithu Ethu before the competition turned him into a recognisable face.
His comic interruptions on Super Singer 7 led the channel to bring him in as one of the comalis on Cooku with Comali, the cooking programme where his clowning reached a far wider Tamil audience. He has also worked as a host there, on Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru? Champions and Kadhanayagi, and was named Best Comedian at the 2022 Vijay Television Awards.
In cinema his first notable part came in Junga, the Vijay Sethupathi picture directed by Gokul, and Gandhi Kannadi in 2025 gave him his first film as the lead actor.
