Ponnamma Babu

Ponnamma Babu is an actor from Kottayam district whose screen career grew out of stage work. While still at school she joined Nrithabhavan Balesangham in Poonjar and later the Surabhila Drama troupe in Ettumaanur, and that grounding carried her into Malayalam cinema with Padanayakan in 1996, where she played Seetha's mother.

Supporting parts in family stories became her trade. Mothers and wives dominate her early credits, for instance Indu's mother in Karunyam and Thommichan's wife in Vamsam, and over the decades her work has added up to more than 300 films, TV serials and comedy shows.

Television has run alongside the films. She appeared on the Asianet comedy show Cinemala and in serials such as Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam on Asianet, Mrs. Hitler on Zee Keralam and Ammakkilikkoodu on Surya TV.
