About Saaniya
Saaniya Abbas is an Indian stand-up comedian who grew up in a Muslim household in New Delhi and attended a Catholic convent boarding school before relocating to the United Arab Emirates, where she now works as an art director and copywriter in Dubai. She came to comedy while going through a divorce, enrolling in a stand-up workshop as a distraction that grew into a serious pursuit. During the COVID-19 pandemic she built a large following, hosting live comedy videos on Instagram, where she has around half a million followers under the handle @saaniyax. In 2025, at age 36, she became the first Dubai-based stand-up to bring a full solo hour to the Edinburgh Fringe, with her show Hellarious, which ran from 30 July to 25 August and draws on her divorce, her Muslim upbringing, her convent education and marrying and divorcing a white man. She has also toured comedy clubs in the UK and India.
