About Sonu Venugopal
Sonu Venugopal is a Bengaluru-based stand-up comic, digital creator, actor and improviser, and one of the few women performing Kannada-language stand-up comedy in Karnataka. Before turning to comedy she built an eight-year career as a radio professional and voice artist, hosting popular Hindi and Kannada radio shows such as Bollywood Cafe and City Maatu. Fluent in Kannada, English and Hindi, she performs slice-of-life comedy in her distinctive Uttara Karnataka style, drawing material from the people around her, and has built a large online following with her stand-up content watched millions of times. Her solo Kannada stand-up special "Punyakoti", inspired by the legendary story of the holy cow of the same name, toured the United Kingdom in 2023 and expanded to Australia, the Netherlands, France and Germany in 2024. She followed it with a second special, "High Risk, Low Return". In 2018 she received the Best Entertainer award at the Karnataka Women Achievers' Awards.
