Vidyullekha Raman

Vidyullekha Raman came to film comedy from the stage, building years of theatre work during college in Chennai before her screen debut. Her parts are written as comic roles rather than as leads, which in Tamil and Telugu cinema is a specialised craft with its own timing and its own following.

After the 2012 debut she played opposite Santhanam in Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru and took comic roles in Telugu pictures, moving her base to the Telugu industry; the Nandi Award for Run Raja Run in 2014 confirmed the direction. She has also worked in television, reaching the closing rounds of a cooking competition built around comedians, a format that puts improvisation rather than a script in front of the camera.
