About Ligwina Hananto
Ligwina Hananto is an Indonesian financial planner, the founder and CEO of QM Financial, who has built a parallel career as a stand-up comedian of more than ten years' standing, active with Jakarta's English-language Batavia Jokers community and known for having opened for touring international comedians. In May 2023 she staged the solo show "Ligwina Hananto: SJW!" at Soehanna Hall in Jakarta, delivered largely in English, which press coverage described as a breakthrough for a woman performing solo comedy in a scene still dominated by men. Across nearly an hour of material she covered subjects ranging from her own identity as a hijab-wearing, religiously conservative "Indonesian Karen" to frank discussion of sex, money and racism. Hananto has said she hopes more women will use comedy to talk about empowerment, framing stand-up stages as a space for women to critique social systems. She has continued performing and appeared at women-focused comedy events including the Women On Top showcase at JICOMFEST 2019.
