Ramon Papana

Ramon Papana's link to comedy is less as a stage act than as someone who built places and programmes for it. Before that he spent years behind the turntables: from 1979 he played clubs in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, came back to be a resident DJ in Jakarta and Bandung, and set up The Academy of Disc Jockey with SC Low and Mixmaster Marvin before founding the Indonesian Disc Jockey School.

Television pulled him towards humour. With Harry de Fretes he co-founded PT HDF Corporation, which managed the Lenong Rumpi group and made comedy series such as Lenong Rumpi and Hari Harry Gila for Anteve and F-2 for TPI. In 2003 he teamed up with Eko Patrio to run EKOMANDO Production. His most direct link to live comedy came earlier, in 1997, when he opened Comedy Cafe Indonesia in Kemang, South Jakarta. He also wrote humour columns for Sinar Harapan and Intisari and scripts for television and the stage.
