On 19 February 2011, Rio married Sari Sumartini, whom he met while they both worked at the same bank, where she was a finance manager; from this marriage they have two children, a son named Bob Wellson Dumatubun born in 2013 and a daughter named Dia Carissa Putri Dumatubun born in 2019.

Rio first became interested in stand-up comedy in 2015, when the bank where he worked held a stand-up competition; considered funny among his colleagues, he was registered for it, although he did not win. He joined the Stand Up Indo West Jakarta community and first took part in a large-scale competition at Jicomfest in 2018 without winning. In 2020, Rio together with several Greater Jakarta comedians such as Putra Pattinama, Falah Akbar, Kang Kicuy, Kang Ripay, Levi Ofsanusi and Apep Dodo agreed to form the comedy group Sohibul Diksi. At the end of 2020 he auditioned for the ninth season of Stand Up Comedy Indonesia Kompas TV, entering the Waktu Indonesia Barat audition group, earned a golden ticket and became one of the 15 finalists. With his persona as a security guard, and his deliveries beginning with the word "satpam", Rio reached the grand final and, thanks to his maximum performance across the three rounds given, came out as champion.
