Wissam Kamal

Wissam Kamal is a Lebanese stand-up comedian, filmmaker and YouTuber who grew up in a small apartment in Burj Hammoud, a working-class suburb of Beirut. He has described his approach to comedy as rooted in personal hardship, saying his stand-up comes from a place of sadness or pain rather than pure entertainment. Kamal built his following through YouTube stand-up clips addressing Lebanese society, including material drawing on his own experience as a Muslim who dated a Christian woman, a common but rarely discussed reality of interfaith relationships in Lebanon. In 2010, while performing at the Al-Kafaat institute, he noticed a deaf student laughing along with his set, which led him to pioneer stand-up comedy performances adapted for deaf audiences in Lebanon. He later became the first Lebanese comedian to host a show on the international Comedy Central network. Kamal continues to perform regularly on Beirut's club circuit, including at awk.word showcases, and posts stand-up clips and specials on his YouTube channel.
