Ray Contreras

Ray Contreras is a Mexican stand-up comedian, writer, singer, podcaster and photographer originally from Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora in northern Mexico. He moved to Mexico City around the mid-2010s and built his career on the capital's growing stand-up circuit, becoming one of the more recognizable comic voices in the Comedy Central Mexico generation. His comedy mixes observational humor with deeply personal storytelling: life as a chubby kid in Hermosillo, the contradictions of northern macho culture, the experience of moving from Sonora to the chilangos' capital, and being openly part of the LGBTQ+ community. His delivery is regarded as one of the best voices in Mexican stand-up, with crisp diction and an ironic tone that he uses to take ownership of the discrimination and stereotypes he has lived through.

Ray Contreras broke into national visibility through Comedy Central Mexico, where he recorded multiple stand-up sets including the routine Mi Amiga la Gangosa, which became one of his calling cards. From there he expanded onto Netflix as part of Spanish-language stand-up programming and built a touring career taking his show to comedy festivals and theaters across Mexico, with reported dates in venues such as the Arena Corner Sport in Chihuahua and a steady circuit through northern Mexico. Beyond stage work he created the successful podcast Amigos Imaginarios, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Listen Notes among other platforms, where he discusses everyday life, identity and being told how to live - the original pitch of the show. His comedy is described as combining ironia nortena with personal experiences, and he is regularly listed among the prominent new-generation stand-ups in Mexico. He is also active on YouTube as @RayContreras, where his Comedy Central clips and original material draw a recurring audience. Topics he is most often associated with include LGBTQ+ identity, body image, Hermosillo vs CDMX, and the absurdities of contemporary Mexican social life.

Ray Contreras tours regularly through Mexican cities, with documented stops in Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Mexico City and Monterrey. His Comedy Central Mexico clips remain available on YouTube via his channel @RayContreras and on the Comedy Central Latam YouTube channel. The podcast Amigos Imaginarios is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and most major podcast platforms.
