About Espen Eckbo
Espen Andersen Eckbo was born on 22 April 1973 in Oslo and grew up in Bestum. He has no formal training as an actor, having instead spent two years as a law student at the University of Oslo before turning to comedy.
Internationally he is best known for co-creating the fictional boy band Boyzvoice with Henrik Elvestad and the mockumentary Get Ready to be Boyzvoiced (2000) that followed. Eckbo first appeared on Norwegian television in 1998 with his own segment on the news satire show Mandagsklubben, playing a different mock documentary character each week; these segments also launched Boyzvoice. The short-lived series I kveld, with Thomas Giertsen and Rebekka Strandenes, followed in 1999.
In 2001 he sent up reality television with the mock series Nissene pa laven, made with Kristian Odegard, which introduced two of his best-known characters, Asbjorn Brekke and Rhino Thue; around this time he and Odegard also founded the production company Seefood. Eckbo's characters later turned up in the game show TV2-nottene, hosted by Odegard as a parody of the Christmas and Easter specials Julenotter and Pasenotter, as well as in Elvestad's mock talk show Tonight med Timothy Dale (2003) and Eckbo's own Tett pa tre (2008). He also contributed segments to Otto Jespersen's Rikets rost, and in 2006 created the live show Team Eckbo with Atle Antonsen, Harald Eia and Bard Tufte Johansen.
