About Deniz Özturhan
Deniz Özturhan (born 1979 in Ankara) is regarded as Turkey's first female stand-up comedian. A graduate of Marmara University in French-language public administration, she began her writing career with a humor column in 2003 and built a wide readership with her blog "Kim Lan Bu Hayatımın Erkeği?", launched in 2008. In 2011, encouraged by a friend, she took the stage for the first time, performing informally with three friends in a cafe in what became one of Turkey's earliest stand-up scenes. In 2015 she founded Çok da Fifi, Turkey's first all-female stand-up collective, together with five other comedians; the group toured cities across Turkey for five years and helped open the stage to women in Turkish comedy. Alongside her group work, Özturhan performs her own solo, one-person stand-up shows on tour, and she has also worked as an author, radio host and podcaster.
