Shawn Chidiac

Shawn Chidiac is a Canadian-Lebanese stand-up comedian and content creator based in the United Arab Emirates, best known by his social media persona My Parents Are Divorced. Born in Montreal to a family from Lebanon, he was raised largely by his mother after the family moved to Dubai, and he has said comedy had been his dream since he was seven years old. For years he worked a day job as a marketing director at a software company while building a following in Dubai's comedy clubs and posting comedy skits online, first under the handle Laughing in Arabic before renaming his account My Parents Are Divorced, which has grown to more than 645,000 followers. In 2023, he quit his job to become a full-time comedian and content creator. His material draws on his upbringing between Lebanese, Canadian and Emirati cultural influences, including impressions of different accents. Chidiac has headlined ticketed solo stand-up shows in Dubai, including at the Dubai Comedy Festival and at Vox Cinemas' Same Same, But Different talk show, and after selling out Dubai Opera he went on to headline Coca-Cola Arena with his solo show Laughing in Translation Remix. He has since toured his stand-up act to Bahrain, to London, where Arab News reviewed his performance, and to the United States, including a date at Cap City Comedy Club in Austin, Texas.
