About Dane Baptiste

Dane Baptiste (born 3 September 1981) is a British stand-up comedian, writer and presenter. From Hither Green in South East London, he worked in media sales before starting stand-up comedy in 2012. He was the first Black Briton to be nominated for the Best Newcomer award at the 2014 Edinburgh Comedy Awards, following his debut show Citizen Dane. In 2016 he created, wrote and starred in the sitcom Sunny D, which premiered on BBC Three and was later purchased for an American remake by Lionsgate. He has hosted Live at the Apollo and his own podcast Dane Baptiste Questions Everything, and in 2021 his BBC pilot Bamous premiered. In May 2024 his agents dropped him following a social media post directed at an unnamed female comic, which he later described as "a massive error of judgment" and for which he apologised.
