About Danny Bhoy

Danny Bhoy studied history at the University of Glasgow and got into stand-up as a member of the audience: he started performing in 1998 after seeing his first comedy show at the Edinburgh Festival. Within a year he had won The Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award, one of the biggest British competitions for comedy newcomers. The spelling of his stage name has a practical origin, since Equity already had a performing dog registered as Danny Boy, so he added an H.

His first solo show in Edinburgh, in 2001, sold out its three-week run within a week and needed extra performances. The observational material, much of it drawn from Scottish social habits and his own experiences, travelled well. In Australia he played the Melbourne Comedy Festival and appeared on Rove Live and The Glass House, and at Just for Laughs in Montreal the Montreal Gazette named him the standout hit of the festival.

In the United States he performed on the Late Show with David Letterman and recorded the Comedy Central special Subject to Change, while British viewers saw him on Live at the Apollo. His filmed stage shows include Live at the Sydney Opera House, Live at the Athenaeum and Live at the Festival Theatre.
