About Grace Petrie
Grace Petrie is a folk singer-songwriter from Leicester who started playing in 2006, alone with an acoustic guitar. Her place on a comedy site comes from the company she keeps on the road: in 2011 she toured with the comedian Josie Long, and she has also gone round the country with Robin Ince, playing her songs to audiences who came for stand-up.
After the Conservative-led coalition took power in 2010, her writing became openly political, from the left. The title song of Tell Me a Story, released that year, deals with welfare policy, and Mark My Words in 2011 answered the way the media covered that year's unrest.
Her catalogue runs through Love Is My Rebellion, Whatever's Left, Heart First Aid Kit and Queer as Folk to Connectivity, which reached number 37 on the UK Albums Chart, and Build Something Better, which climbed to number 28. Billy Bragg brought her to the Leftfield stage at Glastonbury in 2010 and she has played it every year since, and she has shared bills with Emmy the Great, Dick Gaughan and Peggy Seeger.
