About Holly Dione Walsh

Holly Walsh (born 8 November 1980), born Holly Dione Walsh, is an English comedian and comedy writer. The daughter of an Anglican vicar, she attended Christ's Hospital School before studying History of Art at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, which she described as "the most boring three years of my life". After graduating she worked in various small art galleries in east London, where she attended comedy writing evening classes and, as a direct result, wrote for Jo Caulfield on BBC Radio 4 before switching to comedy full-time in 2006.

Walsh was runner-up in the Amused Moose Laugh Off 2006 on the Edinburgh Fringe and appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2007 and 2008. In 2007 she was approached by Frank Skinner to appear in a TV pilot for Avalon Entertainment, Frank Skinner's Skateboarding Dog. In August 2011 she was nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer for her first hour-long show, which drew on her life after breaking her arm in the Worthing Birdman Competition in August 2010.

She co-wrote the BBC Three sitcom Dead Boss with Sharon Horgan, which starred Horgan and Jennifer Saunders and began airing in June 2012. Walsh has appeared on shows including Mock the Week, QI and Would I Lie to You?, and won on her debut broadcast of Just a Minute on 3 March 2014. She is a writer for the BBC sitcom Motherland and its sequel Amandaland, and devised, co-wrote and directs the BBC comedy The Other One. She won Best Newcomer at the Chortle Awards in 2008.
