About Jason Byrne
Jason Byrne (born 25 February 1972) is an Irish stand-up comedian. Born in Dublin, in the suburb of Ballinteer, he became a fixture of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, making his twelfth appearance there in August 2008. He has presented a mid-morning radio show on Phantom FM as well as the comedy chat show The Jason Byrne Show featuring P. J. Gallagher, and the comedy panel show The Byrne Ultimatum on RTE Two.
From 2010 to 2012 Byrne created and starred in a BBC Radio 2 series also called The Jason Byrne Show, whose second series was awarded a Gold Sony Radio Award for Best Comedy. His extensive run of solo stand-up shows includes Jason Byrne: That's Not a Badger (2004), The Lovely Goat Show (2005), Afterhours (2007), The Byrne Supremacy (2009) and Cirque Du Byrne (2011). His stand-up has been released on the DVDs Out of the Box (2006) and Live - Cirque Du Byrne (2012). In 2018 he published The Accidental Adventures of Onion O'Brien, a series of books about a young boy growing up in Ireland with constant bad luck, based on Byrne's own childhood.
On television, Byrne appeared in Father Ted as a referee (1998), Live at the Apollo (2011) and Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled (2014), presented Wild Things (2015), hosted Don't Say It... Bring It! (2017) and served as a judge on Ireland's Got Talent (2018-2019). His film credits include I Went Down (1997), The General (1998) and Killing Bono (2011). He was a finalist in So You Think You're Funny in 1996, was nominated for the Perrier Best Newcomer Award in 1998 and the Perrier Award in 2001, and won the Forth One Fringe Award in 2004.
