Joe Lycett
About Joe Lycett
Joe Lycett (born Joe Harry Lycett, 1988 in Birmingham) is a British comedian and television presenter. He has appeared on many TV shows, including Live at the Apollo, Taskmaster, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 8 Out of 10 Cats and QI, served as the announcer on Epic Win and the narrator for Ibiza Weekender, and presented BBC Two's The Great British Sewing Bee and Channel 4's Joe Lycett's Got Your Back and Travel Man. He is recognised as one of Britain's most high-profile queer or pansexual men and has advocated for the LGBTQ community on many occasions.
Lycett was born at Solihull Hospital and grew up in Solihull. In 2021, appearing on the genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are?, he researched his family history. After attending King Edward VI Five Ways Grammar School, he studied drama and English at the University of Manchester, graduating with a BA.
He began performing stand-up in 2009 and won the Chortle Student Comedian of the Year the same year. A parking ticket dispute with City of York Council in 2015 was recounted on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and became the basis for one of his best-known stand-up routines. In June 2022, an audience member at the Belfast show of his More More More, How Do You Lycett? How Do You Lycett? tour called the PSNI to complain about a joke; the investigation was subsequently closed.
Lycett has presented BBC Two's The Great British Sewing Bee since taking over in February 2019, and Travel Man on Channel 4 since 2021. He presented his consumer show Joe Lycett's Got Your Back, which takes on big corporations to provide justice for consumers, and the documentary Joe Lycett vs the Oil Giant (2021). He also presents Channel 4's Late Night Lycett.
