About Bill Cosby

William Henry Cosby Jr. (born July 12, 1937) is an American former comedian, actor, and media personality. Born in Philadelphia, he served in the Navy before earning a track-and-field scholarship to Temple University, then left his studies to pursue comedy. He began his career as a stand-up comic at the Hungry I nightclub in San Francisco in 1961, performing observational comedy in a conversational style, and released numerous comedy albums starting with Bill Cosby Is a Very Funny Fellow...Right! (1963); he still holds the record for the most Grammy Awards for Best Comedy Album, with seven wins. His starring role in the NBC series I Spy made him the first black actor to win a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series, and he later achieved global recognition as Cliff Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984-1992). Beginning in 2014, over 60 women accused Cosby of various offenses, and in 2018 he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault against Andrea Constand, a conviction later vacated in 2021 by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
