About Bob Nelson

Bob Nelson started doing stand-up in the late 1970s while studying theatre at Nassau Community College, and he built his act on rubber-faced characters. Two routines became his trademarks: an impression of Jacques-Yves Cousteau and a football bit that sends up the player introductions at the College Football All-Star game. Early on he was also part of a comedy group, The Identical Triplets, with Eddie Murphy and Rob Bartlett.

For eight years he opened for Rodney Dangerfield, and that job put him in two of Dangerfield's HBO showcases next to Jerry Seinfeld, Roseanne Barr, Rita Rudner and Bob Saget. HBO then gave him specials of his own, one of them titled Nelson Schmelson, and he made several appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Later he went on tour with Gallagher.

His film parts include Henry Shoop in Kindergarten Cop, released in 1990, Ed in This Is My Life and Jacques in Brain Donors. Television writing came earlier: in 1983 he won an Emmy in Philadelphia for writing and starring in the children's show Double Muppet Hold the Onions.
