About Chris Powell
Chris Powell, billed as Comedian CP, is a Detroit comic whose path ran through an office first. He went to Mumford High School, earned a bachelor's degree in communication studies at Michigan State University and worked in advertising, which he left in 2010 to try for a career in entertainment.
His home city gave him his first real following. A monthly comedy night he ran at Saint Andrew's Hall, The CP Show, helped him reach a wider audience. Television followed with his first part, the recurring role of Lil Prince on Empire in 2015, and a year later he was chosen to do stand-up on HBO's All Def Comedy.
From 2017 to 2018 he was both a cast member and a writer on the Comedy Central series Detroiters, and he has writing credits on Black Jesus as well. In 2021 he took a supporting role in the second season of Love Life on HBO Max.
