About George Lopez (Komiker)
George Lopez has been doing stand-up since 1983, and the subject he keeps returning to is race and ethnic relations, above all the experience of growing up Mexican American. He was born in Los Angeles in 1961.
His recorded comedy follows that thread closely. The album Team Leader and the HBO specials America's Mexican and Tall, Dark & Chicano each earned a Grammy nomination, and It's Not Me, It's You came out on HBO in 2012.
Television gave him a parallel career as a writer, producer and star. The ABC sitcom George Lopez ran from 2002 to 2007, the late-night talk show Lopez Tonight aired on TBS from 2009 to 2011, Saint George lasted one season on FX, and Lopez vs Lopez ran on NBC from 2022 to 2025. He has voiced characters in Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Rio, appeared in Blue Beetle, and told his own story in the book Why You Crying?, written with Armen Keteyian. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006.
