Hazel Thayer
About Hazel Thayer
Hazel Thayer took up stand-up in 2019 with climate change as the subject at its centre. She studied economics at the University of Alberta, and it shows in the framing: she treats the environment as a matter of money, living standards and politics rather than of laboratory science, and the jokes go after overconsumption, greenwashing and the politics of fossil fuels. The tone stays practical, pointing people to things they can do instead of loading them with guilt.
Most of the work reaches audiences as short videos on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. She made the series The Climate Breakdown with The Weather Network and a second series with Pique Action that launched in 2023. Off screen she has spoken at a Careers for Change: Climate Action event in Washington, D.C., and was an invited guest at the Democratic National Convention in 2024.
