About Henry Cho

Henry Cho (born December 30, 1962) is an American stand-up comedian. Of Korean descent, he was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, where his father worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He has performed at the Grand Ole Opry over 100 times, and on January 6, 2023, became the first Asian-American invited to become a member of the Opry, as well as the first comedian to become an Opry member since 1973.

Cho is well known as a clean comedian, forgoing profanity and objectionable material, and has sometimes been called Mr. Clean. He often draws on his childhood experiences as an Asian American in the South, noting, I'm an Asian with a Southern accent. To a lot of people, that right there is funny. He has stated that he avoids stereotypes, saying he never wants to do anything derogatory toward the Korean community. He entered stand-up comedy in 1986 and moved to Los Angeles in 1989, appearing on shows including The Arsenio Hall Show, An Evening at the Improv, and later The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Cho has appeared in three feature films: McHale's Navy (1997) opposite Tom Arnold and David Alan Grier, Say It Isn't So (2001), and Material Girls (2006). In 1994 he hosted NBC's Friday Night. In 2006 he had his own Comedy Central special, Henry Cho: What's That Clickin' Noise?, featuring Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, and Larry the Cable Guy as guest voices. His work can be heard on SiriusXM Radio. He is married to Amy Cho, has three children, farms angus cattle in Gallatin, Tennessee, and is a practicing Christian.
