About Ian Lara
Ian Lara is a Dominican-American stand-up comedian from New York City, born in East New York, Brooklyn and raised in Queens. The youngest of five children of Dominican immigrant parents, he began doing stand-up shortly after college and quickly became one of the most visible rising voices out of the New York club scene. His material draws on growing up with immigrant parents, navigating questions of racial identity as a light-skinned Dominican, and life with a born-again Christian father. He is a regular at the Comedy Cellar in New York City.
Ian Lara's breakout came when his Comedy Central Stand-Up Featuring set went viral, reaching over 10 million streams. He has since performed five times on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and appeared on NBC's Bring the Funny in Season 1. In February 2022 he debuted his Comedy Central half-hour special Growing Shame, and in November 2022 he released his first standalone HBO special Ian Lara: Romantic Comedy, which streams on Max. He was selected as a 2021 Just For Laughs New Face and was named one of Variety's 10 Comics to Watch in 2023. His latest hour, Material Boy, is available on his official YouTube channel.
