About Michael Colyar
Michael Colyar learned to hold a crowd in the open air. For years he played Venice Beach every weekend, several shows a day, which earned him the nickname King of Venice Beach. The Chicago-born comic then won Star Search and shared his prize money with homeless people, a decision People Weekly wrote about.
Television work followed on both the comedy and the sitcom side. He was a recurring comic on Def Comedy Jam and played Mr. Whitaker in Martin, with further appearances in The Hughleys, The Bernie Mac Show, Everybody Hates Chris and Blackish. In the cinema he was Showboat in House Party 3 and Morris the Barber in Norbit, and he gave his voice to Buford in the video game The Princess and the Frog.
Beyond the club set he has written the book A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The White House, I Knocked on the Door and a Brother Answered, recorded the comedy album Let Me Drop This On You and created a one-man play titled Michael Colyar's Momma's. He also fronts The Michael Colyar Morning Show on YouTube and the podcast Michael Talks to Errbody!
