Mohammed Mustafa Amer

Mo Amer (born Mohammed Mustafa Amer, July 24, 1981) is a Palestinian-American stand-up comedian and actor. He is known for his Netflix comedy special Mo Amer: The Vagabond and as a member of the comedy trio Allah Made Me Funny. Amer appeared in the Hulu sitcom Ramy from 2019 to 2022, playing Ramy's cousin Mo who owns a diner, and created and stars in the Netflix series Mo, released in August 2022, which is loosely based on his real life experience as a Palestinian refugee. The same year, he appeared in the film Black Adam.

The youngest of six children, Amer is Palestinian; his father worked as an engineer for the Kuwait Oil Company. At age 9, Amer fled Kuwait during the Gulf War and settled in Houston, Texas. After his father died in 1995, a teacher encouraged him to pursue comedy as an outlet for his grief. He reached the finals of Houston's Funniest Person Contest in 1999 and was mentored at The Comedy Showcase by owner Danny Martinez. By age 19, he was performing for U.S. troops stationed abroad, becoming one of the first Arab-American refugee comedians to do so.

Starting in 2006, alongside Preacher Moss and Azhar Usman, Amer travelled the country for the Allah Made Me Funny tour, and he has since performed in over 27 countries across five continents at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Hammersmith Apollo, and Shrine Auditorium. After touring with Dave Chappelle, he recorded his special Legally Homeless and made his U.S. network television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in March 2017. His Netflix specials Mo Amer: The Vagabond (2018) and Mo Amer: Mohammed in Texas (2022) followed.
