Sebastian Marx

Sebastian Marx is an American stand-up comedian from New York who has built his career in Paris, France. Raised in a Jewish family that had fled Nazi Germany and later Argentina's dictatorship, he made his stage debut at age 17 at Caroline's Comedy Club, a well-known stand-up venue in New York. While studying film at Boston University, he continued performing in New York and Boston clubs, including with his sketch group Les Incontinentals, and worked as a bartender at Boston's Comedy Connection, where he watched comedians such as Chris Rock, Jon Stewart and Dave Chappelle perform.

After moving to Paris, Marx resumed stand-up in 2010, this time performing in French, and helped build a comedy scene for English-speaking expatriates in the city. His one-man show 'Un New Yorkais à Paris' blends observations about French and American culture, and in 2012 he was noticed by Jamel Debbouze and joined the Jamel Comedy Club troupe. In 2016 he created the YouTube series 'La Langue Française Expliquée Par Un Américain,' which drew more than ten million views. He has continued to tour with new material, including the show 'On est bien là,' and lives in Paris with his French partner and their three children.
