About Wendy Jo Smith
Wendy Jo Smith, who performs as Wendy Ho, was born in Toledo, Ohio, spent much of her childhood in Kansas City, Kansas, and picked up the nickname that became her stage name while at Missouri State University. She started out in the comedy clubs of New York, and one of her early bookings was a Christmas show at a gay-oriented venue.
Her act mixes stand-up, rap and singing. The character has been described as a parody of a Harlem prostitute and as a female drag queen, and Smith uses the word Ho on purpose, to strip it of its negative weight. Her recording career began with the rap album The Gospel According to Ho, followed by releases such as Number 2 and Yes, I'm a Ho!, and in 2014 one of her albums reached the top ten of the Billboard comedy album chart.
On television she appeared on Showtime in I Can't Believe I'm Still Single, and the series Nip/Tuck featured a parody of her character.
