About Woody Allen
Heywood "Woody" Allen (born Allan Stewart Konigsberg; November 30, 1935) is an American filmmaker, actor, writer, and comedian whose career has spanned eight decades. Born in the Bronx and raised in Brooklyn, he began writing jokes as a teenager and worked as part of a team of comedy writers for several Sid Caesar specials, later writing humor pieces for The New Yorker and Broadway plays. He transitioned to working as a stand-up comedian in Greenwich Village, where he developed a monologue style and the persona of an insecure, intellectual, fretful nebbish, and released three comedy albums. He established himself as a prominent film director, writing, directing, and starring in comedies such as Take the Money and Run (1969) and Annie Hall (1977), the latter of which won four Academy Awards. He has received the most wins and nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, along with four Academy Awards in total.
