José Rafael Guzmán
About José Rafael Guzmán
José Rafael Guzmán trained as a dentist at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and practised for a time, including in the oral surgery department of the Hospital Ortopédico Infantil. He was also selected for postgraduate surgical training, which he did not pursue. Comedy started for him at the open mic nights organised by George Harris, and that led to the stand-up production Mi País tu país, where he shared the stage with Harris, Led Varela and Profesor Briceño.
Radio became a steady outlet. On LaMega he worked on a series of shows, from Triángulo through Apaga la tele to Calma Pueblo, while on television he was a reporter for Chataing TV and took part in Stand-up Sin Fronteras. His stand-up titles include Los Hijos del Ocio, No Quiero Show and Fuera del Aire, and he has collaborated with the humour sites El Mostacho and El Chigüire Bipolar. The web series Comida, Calle y Comedia later gave rise to Caminantes, a documentary about the experience of Venezuelan migrants.
